Don't waste the customer interview!

Don't waste the customer interview.

👋🏼 Hi, I’m Moiz. I'm a Fractional Head of Product who helps top climate-tech teams build product from strategy, discovery, to execution. You’re receiving this because you’re building in climate and we’ve crossed paths. Each issue distills one proven concept that I use with my clients - and gives you a way to apply it to your work.

Don't waste the customer interview.

It already took you weeks of time & effort to get it on the calendar.

BUT if you walk out of the call with False Positives about your customer's needs...

...then you'll get the roadmap wrong. Which is even worse.

I'll show you how to 3 ways to extract customer insights ready for your Roadmap.

Here's what's inside:

  • Solid Interview Prep leads to collecting good feedback
  • How to Spot Risky data and See Reliable data
  • Free workshops and resources to run AI Powered Discovery

Customers don't know what they want.

It's up to you to collect the right feedback.

I'll show you how.

Get Customer Feedback you can build with

  • It starts with Interview Prep
    • You should be testing at least ONE assumption in every interview.
    • Use my free workbook below to do this.
  • Ask story based questions
    • “Tell me about the last time you faced [problem]."
    • "What happened and what did you do?”
    • "How do you know you're done?"
  • Never ask leading questions. Talk less, listen more
    • Once you get people talking about their problems, they'll never stop talking...

Discern Risky vs. Reliable Customer Feedback

  • Spot the Risky:
    • If you ask good questions, you won't hear these...
    • Compliments (“Love it”),
    • Hypotheticals (“I would”), and
    • Solution Ideas (“We’d take it if…”) —
  • See the Reliable:
    • If you ask good questions, you'll hear these...
    • Evidence of Pain: time spent, frustration on solving the problem
    • Evidence of Purchase: workarounds, tools used, money spent

Synthesize

  • Get AI's opinion but never take it straight to the Roadmap
    • Write a prompt that has your context - customer, assumptions, validation signals
    • Upload your interview transcript to get AI's opinion
  • Tell the story to your team
    • Use quantitative and qualitative facts about your customer's lives to tell your team a story
    • Make your Roadmap the logical solution to solving the customer's problem

Conclusion

Most interviews produce flattering noise, not evidence.

In every customer call, you must test at least one assumption.

Make sure you collect at least 1 Reliable Data point that either proves or denies that assumption.

Before you run an interview, you need to generate a set of assumptions to test.

Use my AI Powered Notion workbook to do it in 30 minutes.
